Frequently asked questions.

Are there residency restrictions?

No. We do not have firm residency restrictions, and we support growing girls baseball at the local, regional, and national level. Our local offerings are designed for girls in the greater Philadelphia area. Our tournament teams draw players from the region, including PA, NJ, DE, MD, OH, NY, and VA. We do not actively recruit outside this area. We have some players from other states and across the country, and from Canada join our teams for tournaments and events when matched with us through Baseball For All or other partners.

Do I need to register to attend an event.

Yes. All players, including guest players, must register to participate in Philly Girls Baseball activities and events. This ensures all players are covered under our insurance and allows access to our team communication apps.

How much does it cost?

Our 2025 Registration fees are $600 for our All Inclusive program which includes access to all local outdoor practices, clinics, and events from March through October and all 5 girls baseball tournaments. Tournament fees alone are expected to cost PGB $799 / player and we aim to raise funds to offset the difference between your fees and our costs. In 2025 we are offering a $200 travel reimbursement for All Inclusive program participants who uphold their commitment to attend 2 or more regional tournaments.

Travel costs are by families. Some scholarships are available by emailing info@phillygirlsbaseball.com

Our Basic program fees are $200 excluding tournaments.

Some players may register for a single tournament or multiple individual tournaments. Those fees are assessed once the tournament team fees are set by the hosts.

Do you pro-rate the Registration fee if I join later in the season ?

No. We cannot pro-rate registration fees for players participating in summer or fall tournaments. The actual cost incurred by PGB to add players later in the year is typically more than the registration fee. Early registration is your most cost effective option. please email info@phillygirlsbaseball.com to request a scholarship if you are in need of financial assistance.

What ages can participate?

Our winter training and practices are open to players ages 8+ who sign up. Players outside this age range can contact us to participate.

Our Spring / Summer 2024 local offering is for registered players ages 8+

We periodically hold open clinics and events for players ages 7-18. Event registration is required.

What Equipment does my player need?

All PGB players must have their own equipment bag, glove, cleats, and helmet. Most players prefer to have their own bat. PGB has team bats available if a family makes a request in advance. For sanitary reasons, we do not share helmets. We recommend that any player who catches brings their own catchers gear. If any player is in need of equipment, please email info@phillygirlsbaseball.com and we can assist you in obtaining donated equipment.

What Uniform components do I need to provide?

All PGB players must provide their own pants, belts, and socks. (PGB provides jerseys and hats). After conducting surveys of our player families, we learned that many girls and women prefer to purchase their own pants for a better fit, therefore we do not order pants, belts, or socks for our players.

We intentionally use gray pants with red piping, red socks, and red belts as these are typically readily available in multiple fits online and in retail stores at affordable prices.

Players may wear any length pants below the knee.

Exceptions: If we collaborate with another team that wears white pants, we may ask our players to provide their own white pants in order to match.

What should my player wear to practice?

All PGB players must wear a baseball hat facing forwards to every practice. Players must wear baseball pants or other athletic pants that a player can slide in (no shorts, not leggings), and a jersey or athletic style shirt. We typically hold a few “Shorts” practices throughout the year for fun. These are announced in advance so that coaches can plan a practice that does not require sliding or diving.

What age cut off do you use for tournaments?

We follow the age cutoff dates of the host tournament rules. Most all-girls tournaments use April 30 of the currrent calendar year, even for fall tournaments. Unlike boys/co-ed tournaments, this typically means that a player with a birthday after April 30 can continue to play in their age division until the end of the calendar year. For local games and scrimmages, refer to the Philly Girls Baseball rules.

Is player participation for women and girls only?

We exist because we believe we need safe and supportive environments for women and girls in the sport of baseball. As a program we interpret “woman” and “girl” in the most inclusive and expansive way possible. Any person who now identifies as a woman or girl, or ever has, is welcome regardless of gender or expression.

PGB periodically hosts co-ed drop in games and events such as the MLB Pitch Hit & Run events.

Do players participate in other co-ed / boys teams?

Yes! While some girls elect to participate in girls-only baseball, many of our players participate in local Little League, school teams, recreational baseball programs, or coed travel teams. Girls come together for an all-girls experience to compliment their other playing experiences. We provide conflict prioritization guidelines to help navigate conflicts with other teams.

My player is on the Philly Flames wants to play in a girls tournament that is not on Philly Girls Baseball’s schedule. Should I sign up with another team or as a Free Agent?

A resounding NO!!! PGB players should not sign up directly with another team or as a free agent without first going through the PGB tournament commit form process. If there is a tournament you are interested in, please inform PGB. We will open up a tournament commit form, obtain player interest, and send a team of our own if we have sufficient players.

We ask all families to abide by our Parent Code of Conduct and RSVP / complete Tournament Commit forms in timely manner. In the event that we have low interest, we may arrange a blended team or a guest playing opportunity so that you player is able to participate even if we do not send a team.

The majority of girls baseball programs ask or require that you do not sign up directly with other teams or as a free agent while we are in our tournament commit process. This can be detrimental to the growth of girls baseball as it may result in players being double counted. When players are double counted, teams may drop or forfeit.

Oops! My player is a Philly Flames player and I signed my player up as a free agent or guest player for another event. What should I do?

Immediately retract your sign up with the other team and complete PGB’s commit form in order to avoid any code of conduct violations. We attempt to share our codes of conduct and recruiting policies with all other girls baseball programs, so they should be understanding in the event that you inadvertently signed up or signed up before fully understanding PGB’s commit form process. We recommend you communicate to the other team. If you prefer, Philly Girls Baseball can communicate to the other team’s leadership.

What is the difference between a Free Agent and a Guest Player at girls baseball events?

A Free Agent is a player who is not affiliated with any other girls baseball program. Free Agents may be assigned to us through Baseball For All or other girls baseball programs. If PGB is a good fit for these players, they may become part of the Philly Flames.

A Guest Player is a player already affiliated with a girls baseball program. Guest Players from one of our “sister teams” may join us if we do not have sufficient players to form a full team. We welcome guest players for specific events. In turn, a Philly Flames player may be provided with the option play as a guest player on one of our “sister teams” if we are not sending a team.

What is Philly Girls Baseball’s recruiting / “no poaching” policy?

All registered Philly Girls Baseball players, including Free Agents and Guest Players sign a waiver as part of the registration process. The Recruitment Policy waiver outlines our “no poaching” policies, and Philly Girls Baseball distributes this policy to other girls baseball programs.

Philly Girls Baseball does not "poach" players from other girls baseball programs. We do not have residency restrictions, and we welcome players from outside our immediate area when space permits area as a way to help the growth of girls in the sport.

Philly Girls Baseball agrees that a Guest Player is participating in a specific event(s), and we will not attempt to recruit or poach the player away from their primary girls baseball team. Guest Players and their families and coaches are prohibited from poaching or recruiting any Philly Girls Baseball players to another girls baseball program or team.

All Philly Girls Baseball player families must report any attempted poaching or recruiting efforts to Philly Girls Baseball coaches or board members.

Violating this policy may result in players being prohibited from participating in future events and may result in Philly Girls Baseball filing a formal complaint beyond a report to baseball organizations (USA Baseball, Ripken, tournament host teams, etc.)

How / When does Philly Girls Baseball decide to blend with another team?

Philly Girls Baseball uses a tournament commit form process to determine the number of players in each age division for upcoming tournaments. While our intent is to take teams of our own to girls baseball tournaments, we are committed to our mission to increase opportunities for women and girls to coach and play baseball and therefore may collaborate with other organizations to have opportunities to play. The following are typical approaches. The PGB board may determine a unique approach for each event.

  • If we have sufficient players to take a full team, we attend the tournament with a Philly Flames team.

  • If we have approximately 6- 7 or more players, we attempt to take on Guest Players and/or Free Agents to round out our roster and attend the tournament with a Philly Flames team.

  • If we have 4-6 players, we consider collaborating with another team in a similar situation. This could be a blended team with another organization (1 coach from each organization, roughly 1/2 of the players are from each organization), or another collaboration.

  • If we have 1-3 players, we coordinate with the host team and/or our sister teams to have our players Guest Play on another team.

What Playing Rules do you follow?

Philly Girls Baseball rules are available on our website and are updated throughout the year. Our playing rules are based on Baseball For All Nationals and Little League rules, with some adaptations for our Flex Program which allows players in a wider age range and level of experience. Rules are available here: Rules
